So I have received my first rejection for some time, albeit on a small scale...
Many, many years ago, I wrote a number of sketches and scripts for various competitions, and never got anywhere with them. They were sent into the unknown in brown paper envelopes, (I am that old) never to be heard of again...
This week I sent a few one-liners to a BBC programme, and it seems one of my efforts made the script, but not the final edit. So close.
It is simultaneously annoying and encouraging that I nearly got that first writing credit, even if it is for a throwaway witticism that would be quickly forgotten.
But I'm not discouraged, even if I am disappointed. Still opportunities to try again, and the prospect of other, more substantial irons in the fire in the next few months.
It was never going to be easy, but nearly is still better than not at all.
